The Dyno has now been discontinued.
The Concept2 DYNO is not a new rowing machine, but an innovative strength training device which offers several key advantages over traditional weight-lifting methods.
The DYNO is based on the same wind resistance as the indoor rower which is created by a rotating flywheel. This technology enables the DYNO to be highly responsive to the user, versatile, and very safe. Three core exercises; Leg Press, Bench Press and Seated Row are offered with a limitless range of resistance.
The DYNO features a smart electronic Force Monitor, which provides instant and accurate feedback on each of your lifts.
Dynamic Strength Training
The DYNO is based on the concept of Dynamic Strength Training. As you use the DYNO the resistance you feel is a direct response to your effort: the more force you apply to the DYNO the more you lift. After each lift repetition the Force Monitor displays a measurement of your effort. To those of you who have rowed on the C2 Indoor Rower this is not a new concept.
Think about traditional weight lifting. The amount of weight you can lift is limited by the amount you can handle during the most critical portion of the lift. Other parts of the lift are not as challenging. Dynamic Strength Training is different in that it fully challenges your muscles throughout the lift. The DYNO creates resistance in dynamic response to your effort, so at the points in the 'lift' where you are able to push harder, the resistance is greater.
When training on the DYNO you do not preset the weight you intend to lift as you do with free weights or weight stack devices. The DYNO resists as much force as you apply while performing the 'lift' and then displays this force precisely upon completion of each repetition.
A common approach to strength training with traditional weights is to 'lift to failure'. You might select 100 kilograms, complete six repetitions, and fail to lift the weight on the seventh attempt. To achieve a similar effect on the DYNO you 'lift' with maximum effort during each repetition. You might perform a set of 8 repetitions and generate these forces in kilograms: 112, 107, 108, 105, 102, 98, 94, and 87. These 'lifts' yield an average of 101 kilograms, which the Force Monitor displays once you complete the set.
Additional advantages of Dynamic Strength Training:
Greater Safety
No spotter is required. You can stop in the middle of any lift at any time with no risk of the weight falling on the user.
Ease of Training
Athletes of different strengths can work out together, alternating lifts, without having to change plates.
More Accommodating
This Isokinetic type resistance also means less stress on the joints and tendons used in the lifting process.
Minimal Setup
You can do several different lifts circuit-style with minimal set-up changes.
Better Results
Allows the user to safely MAX each lift to his or her comfort level and overall body strength is achieved at a much greater rate.
Key Features of the DYNO
Three Core Exercises
The DYNO offers the Leg Press, Bench Press and Seated Row. These three movements provide the basic strength foundation for most sports and activities.
Dynamic Loading
The more force you apply, the more weight you 'lift'. Up to 1,000kgs can be 'lifted' on the 55kg DYNO. Eight damper levers regulate the airflow to the fan, setting different loads (or drag factors).
Specific Strength Training
The arms and legs can be specifically and individually isolated and trained through each movement. The Leg Press geometry is designed to match the leg movement of the Cocnept2 Indoor Rower and the Seated Row and Bench Press handles are fully height adjustable.
Multiple Use
The DYNO can be used for developing pure strength, power, muscular endurance and general endurance. It is also ideal for strength testing, circuit training and rehabilitation.
Smart Force Monitor
Provides instant, accurate feedback and is calibrated for comparison with all other DYNO’s. Data for up to 300 reps across 19 sets are automatically stored and available for recall.
Safe Exercise for All
Anyone of any age can use the DYNO without supervision as there is no risk of heavy weights or bars causing injury. If you can't complete a 'lift' you can just stop.
Extreme Durability
Built to the exacting standards as the Indoor Rower, the DYNO has been built to meet the demands of the toughest customers and requires minimal maintenance.
