PM4 Frequently Asked Questions

Can I develop software for the PM4?
You cannot develop software for the PM4; however, you can develop software for your computer that will talk to the PM4 from your computer. A Windows programmer's interface guide is now available. To obtain a copy of the programming materials, please visit the Concept2 Training Forum and become a member. Once you become a member, you will find some forums for software development. Information about downloading the software development kit can be found on the PM Software Development page.
I have a Macintosh computer. Is there software available for me?
Yes. Starting with Version 4.0, the LogCard Utility is PM4 and Mac-compatible.

I have a Linux computer. Is there software available for me?
Not at this time. The Linux drivers do not currently operate properly for the PM4 to communicate with these systems. If you are a software developer, please go to our Software Developer Forum.
Does the PM4 use the same formulas as the PM3?
Yes, the PM4 uses exactly the same math to determine pace and output, and the internal metal flywheel design itself is unchanged, so the times are interchangeable with that of the PM3.
Can a PM4 be installed on a Model D, C, B, or A Indoor Rower?
Yes, it is possible to retrofit a PM4 to a Model D, C, B, or A Indoor Rower. Please refer to the following FAQ for more information.

Can the same PM4 unit be used on all Model rowers?
No. Each PM4 is configured to work on the specific model of Indoor Rower on which it will be installed. Additionally, Concept2 has set up specific kits for each scenario to ensure you receive any additional hardware necessary for mounting a new style monitor to the flywheel on your model Indoor Rower. Please contact Concept2 or the authorised dealer in your country for more information.

I have a problem with my PM4. What do I do?
Please contact us via phone at free call (in Australia) 1800 730 051 or via email at info@concept2.com.au. Please provide details of your problem along with warranty information (if applicable) and your contact details.

What type of batteries does the PM4 use?
The PM4 for the Model D and E comes equipped with a rechargeable battery pack. The recharge rate depends on the usage pattern of the rower: the more and harder your row, the more quickly the PM4 charges. The rechargeable battery pack works only when a PM4 is installed on a Model E or D Indoor Rower, and is more effective when the PM4 is being used with a Model E Indoor Rower versus use with a Model D. All PM4s are also equipped to use two D-Cell (IEC LR20) batteries. Retrofit PM4s for Model A/B/C will come shipped with D Cell batteries.

Is there a way to find out how much battery power I have left?
Yes. On the PM4, go to More Options, Utilities, and then Battery. The amount of power left will be displayed as a percentage for D Cells. It is hard to determine the capacity left in a rechargeable battery, so the indications will be “Low”, “Very Full” or anywhere in between.

Is there any way to get better battery life from the PM4 on older model Indoor Rowers?
Yes. You can power your PM4 from your PC or Mac's USB port. Alternatively, you can use the AC Adapter available for the PM4.

Is there third party software available for the PM4?
The software company Digital Rowing has developed a Windows based program called RowPro that works with the PM4. For more information about this product and what it does, please visit www.digitalrowing.com. Please use their most recent release, Ver 2.003 or higher. This is not a Concept2 product.
