PM5 Known Issues

If you find a problem with the PM5 firmware that is not listed below, please email info@concept2.com.au so we can research it. Please tell us exactly what you were doing, what you observed, and what you expected to happen.

Generally, if no resolution is listed for an older version of firmware, updating your firmware to the current version will resolve the issue.

Known Issues for Firmware Versions 154 and 854

Issue 1: If you are not using fresh batteries, the strokes per minute may be erratic. To resolve this we recommend installing fresh batteries and updating your PM5 to Beta Firmware Version 154.0015/854.0015 or higher.

Issue 2: The Venue Race Application may falsely report that a tach wire is not plugged in or is broken. It is ok to ignore these messages. To prevent them, update your PM5 to Beta Firmware Version 154.0015/854.0015 or higher.

Issue 3: For multiple distance or time interval workouts that exceed 18 hours 12 minutes regardless of distance, the results will not be stored in memory correctly. To resolve update to beta firmware version 158.003/858.003 or higher.

Known Issues for Firmware Versions 22 and 722

Issue 1: Setting an interval Calorie workout for fewer than 10 Calories causes an error and the workout will not function properly. A future firmware update may fix this issue. In the meantime, do not set interval workouts to fewer than 10 Calories.

Issue 2: In the language selection screens, it appears as if Korean is available; however, it cannot be selected and is not yet available. It will be available in a future firmware version.

Issue 3: During the rest period of a time interval workout, some information is missing on the monitor screens.

Issue 4: If you are not using fresh batteries, the strokes per minute may be erratic. To resolve this we recommend installing fresh batteries and updating your PM5 to Beta Firmware Version 22.0015/722.0015 or higher.

Issue 5: The Venue Race Application may falsely report that a tach wire is not plugged in or is broken. It is ok to ignore these messages. To prevent them, update your PM5 to Beta Firmware Version 22.0015/722.0015 or higher.

Issue 6: For multiple distance or time interval workouts that exceed 18 hours 12 minutes regardless of distance, the results will not be stored in memory correctly. To resolve update to beta firmware version 23.005/723.005 or higher.

Known Issues for Firmware Versions 20 and 720

Issue 1: Wireless race between PM5s is now enabled, but it will work poorly on hardware versions 390 and below.

Issue 2: Some USB flash drive reliability issues still exist, but should be improved compared to previous versions.

Issue 3: In certain circumstances, the test for determining whether a battery issue is due to a faulty generator cable or the batteries themselves is not definitive. If you have a PM5 with Firmware 20 (or SkiErg 720) and a hardware version 500–600 or higher, the procedure involving removing batteries and rowing/skiing may or may not power the PM5. In this specific case, the monitor may not power up due to a firmware bug. To complete this test, update to Firmware Versions 22/722 (or higher). After this update, the test is definitive: If the monitor cannot power up from rowing/skiing and no batteries are present, there is a problem with the generator.

Note: Firmware Versions 22/722 and higher have a built in test for the generator. To run this test: Install v22/722 or higher and press Select Workout. If the cable is not plugged in or is broken, you will receive a message to that effect. The message appears only once per power-on session.

Known Issues for Firmware Versions 19 and 719

Issue 1: Alternating between rowing and skiing may result in List by Type and ReRow not listing workouts that are on the USB flash drive. The workouts are not gone, they just are not listed. This issue is resolved in Beta Firmware Version 19.001 or higher.

Issue 2: Some USB flash drives that are fresh out of the package may take up to 90 seconds to initialize (initialization occurs the first time you insert a USB flash drive into a PM5).This issue is resolved in Beta Firmware Version 19.001 or higher.

Issue 3: Games/Racing with five or more people may not display data correctly on the bottom portion of the screen. This issue is resolved in Beta Firmware Version 19.001 or higher.

Issue 4: Problems with USB flash drive while running current firmware. Firmware versions 19 and 719 include many improvements for USB flash drive use with the PM5; however, improvements are on-going. If you are running current firmware and encounter a problem with your USB flash drive, please contact us.

Issue 5: After saving a new Favorite workout, the Concept2 Utility and/or the PM5 may tell you that something is wrong with the data on the USB flash drive and offer to fix it. The fixes work fine, so go ahead and accept the recommendation to fix the USB flash drive.

Issue 6: Problems connecting to an iOS device with the iConnectConcept2 cable. This results in the PM5 USB port no longer connecting through any USB connection, including connecting it to a computer. If this occurs:

  1. Unplug the cable from the PM5.
  2. Remove the batteries and leave them out for one minute.
  3. Re-install the batteries.
  4. Install PM5 Beta Firmware 19.009/719.009 or higher.

If this does not resolve the issue, contact Concept2.

Known Issues for Firmware Versions 18 and 718

Issue 1: ErgData for Android may have incorrect split results if a pause of a certain duration occurs during a split boundary (for example, on a 2000 metre row, pausing at around 500, 1000 or 1500 metres). The Performance Monitor records the information correctly, but ErgData for Android does not. This will be fixed in a future release.

Issue 2: Problems have been reported when using Sandisk USB flash drives with the PM5. This issue is currently under investigation.

Issue 3: Firmware versions 18 and 718 include many improvements for USB flash drive use with the PM5; however, improvements are on-going. If you are running current firmware and encounter a problem with your USB flash drive, please contact us.

Issue 4: Problems connecting to an iOS device with the iConnectConcept2 cable.
